What “radicalized” this guy, one too many drummer jokes? This case is yet another successful FBI sting, which has been a highly effective tool for steering jihadists intent on murder into a controlled “off ramp” that only leads to jail. Nonetheless, stand by for the standard claims of “entrapment.” There…
A one-time overruling is not reform. Authorities still have the punishment to inflict if and when they see fit. “The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.” Psalm 33:13
Perhaps no figure of speech represents God in a more gracious light than when he is spoken of as stooping from his throne, and coming down from heaven to attend to the wants and to behold the woes of mankind. We love him, who, when Sodom and Gomorrah were full of iniquity, would not destroy those cities until he had made a personal visitation of them. We cannot help pouring out our heart in affection for our Lord who inclines his ear from the highest glory, and puts it to the lip of the dying sinner, whose failing heart longs after reconciliation. How can we but love him when we know that he numbers the very hairs of our heads, marks our path, and orders our ways? Specially is this great truth brought near to our heart, when we recollect how attentive he is, not merely to the temporal interests of his creatures, but to their spiritual concerns. Though leagues of distance lie between the finite creature and the infinite Creator, yet there are links uniting both. When a tear is wept by thee, think not that God doth not behold; for, “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.” Thy sigh is able to move the heart of Jehovah; thy whisper can incline his ear unto thee; thy prayer can stay his hand; thy faith can move his arm. Think not that God sits on high taking no account of thee. Remember that however poor and needy thou art, yet the Lord thinketh upon thee. For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect towards him.
Success is certain when the Lord has promised it. Although you may have pleaded month after month without evidence of answer, it is not possible that the Lord should be deaf when his people are earnest in a matter which concerns his glory. The prophet on the top of Carmel continued to wrestle with God, and never for a moment gave way to a fear that he should be non-suited in Jehovah’s courts. Six times the servant returned, but on each occasion no word was spoken but “Go again.” We must not dream of unbelief, but hold to our faith even to seventy times seven. Faith sends expectant hope to look from Carmel’s brow, and if nothing is beheld, she sends again and again. So far from being crushed by repeated disappointment, faith is animated to plead more fervently with her God. She is humbled, but not abashed: her groans are deeper, and her sighings more vehement, but she never relaxes her hold or stays her hand. It would be more agreeable to flesh and blood to have a speedy answer, but believing souls have learned to be submissive, and to find it good to wait for as well as upon the Lord. Delayed answers often set the heart searching itself, and so lead to contrition and spiritual reformation: deadly blows are thus struck at our corruption, and the chambers of imagery are cleansed. The great danger is lest men should faint, and miss the blessing. Reader, do not fall into that sin, but continue in prayer and watching. At last the little cloud was seen, the sure forerunner of torrents of rain, and even so with you, the token for good shall surely be given, and you shall rise as a prevailing prince to enjoy the mercy you have sought. Elijah was a man of like passions with us: his power with God did not lie in his own merits. If his believing prayer availed so much, why not yours? Plead the precious blood with unceasing importunity, and it shall be with you according to your desire.
By Barry Rubin Bratislava, Slovakia A Czech friend, who has achieved considerable success in life since then, reminded me that for several years he was a window-washer under the Communist regime. The government of the proletariat believed that the worst thing it could do to people who had dissented was to send them into the proletariat. During that period, he was very active in the democratic opposition.
Since he spoke good English, he was often asked by his comrades (probably not the right word) in the anti-Communist struggle for freedom to be the guide for visiting Western sympathizers. Often, he recounts, these were Western leftists eager to explain to those Czechs engaged in the battle for liberty that Marxian socialism was really a great idea, they just needed to make a few adjustments.
Imagine if you will, people who had grown up in an ideological dictatorship that sent people to prison for making the wrong joke being lectured by a bunch of spoiled, well-dressed Western intellectuals on the splendor of their prison.
That’s a familiar image today, with many gays, self-identified feminists, Jewish leftists, and leftists in general (including those pretending to be liberals) extolling ideologies and systems that would pound them into the ground. Who are they, for example, to criticize the treatment of women as one step above cattle since after all that’s the local custom? And, they continue, the women really like it! Yesterday’s reactionary racist chauvinism is today’s multicultural progressivism!
For an increasing number of the blacks who bought a ticket to Obama’s 2008 traveling ‘hope n change’ show, disappointment and embarrassment are replacing their inaugural euphoria.
Obama’s support among all groups, including African Americans, has been slipping. Five months ago, 83 percent of African Americans held “strongly favorable” views of Obama. But in a new Washington Post-ABC news poll, that number dropped to 58 percent.
In an exclusive interview with Black Entertainment Television (BET) on September 26 President Obama blamed the falling numbers on his administration’s failure to effectively communicate “what they were doing for the American people.”
I think that the more you’re in this office, the more you have to say to yourself that telling a story to the American people is just as important as the actual policies that you’re implementing.
Many black co-workers of mine are finally catching on to the “storytelling.” While President Obama exalts himself as the vanguard of the poor and working class, he cavorts with Lady Gaga in Silicon Valley at $35,000 plate fundraiser dinners, takes luxury vacations, hits the golf course and pals around with Wall Street tycoons. Mr. Obama also attended a Congressional Black Caucus awards dinner on Saturday and reiterated his advocacy for “struggling families.”
With patient and firm determination, I am going to press on for jobs. I’m going to press on for equality. I’m going to press on for the sake of our children. I’m going to press on for the sake of all those families who are struggling right now. I don’t have time to feel sorry for myself. I don’t have time to complain. I am going to press on.
This kind of self-absorbed 60′s lingo elicits some pretty rough mockery in the employee lounge and has left a lot of Obama’s black supporters feeling like traumatized children whose parents promised them a trip to the amusement park and reneged at the last minute.
Of course, all would be well if Team Obama had something to show for their hubris but after 3 years, they got nothin’. In fact, they got less than nothin’. To quote my frustrated coworker “the country’s still as jacked up now as it was under Bush.”
So how have blacks fared with Obama in the White House?
According to the Department of Labor the black unemployment rate has risen to 16.7% up 67% since Obama took office. Last April, black male unemployment reached the highest rate since the government began tracking the figures back in 1972.
Maya Wiley, director of the Center for Social Inclusion in Chicago, doesn’t see much hope stating that “history is going to say that the black middle class was decimated over the past few years.” Wiley fails to mention Democrats, those protectors of the poor, had four years before the “shellacking” to get “crazy good.”
In the BET interview the president said he has seen the frustration and understands the impatience. “Some of the things, though, that have been plaguing the African American community for too long, those things are going to take years to change,” he said. Has Obama helped blacks to see the progressive “plague” that has decimated their communities?
No one likes being used as a tool for agitators who propagate false doctrines to fill their own pockets. Obama and the mouthpieces in the Congressional Black Caucus have engaged in deceptive exploitation of their own supporters for a long time. But the President feels their pain.
Last week, I attended a symposium that clarified for me exactly why Iran is the single greatest existential threat to the United States and the free world today.
The symposium panel consisted not of some off-the-wall Cassandras, but rather of some the soberest most serious thinkers in the field of national security. Among them were:
Reza Kahlili, Ex-CIA spy in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards; author of the award-winning book A Time To Betray; Instructor at the Joint Counterintelligence Training Academy of the Dept. of Defense;
Lt. Col. (ret.) Tony Shaffer, U.S. Army, Bronze Star recipient and Senior Intelligence Officer in the Defense Intelligence Agency;
Clare Lopez, strategic policy and intelligence expert on national defense, Islam, Iran, and counterterrorism issues.
I put these names up front to demonstrate that this is not just me trying to stir up the pot.
The reason why the danger is so clear and imminent is because of a confluence of two facts that make up the perfect storm:
1. The nature of the version of Shiite Islam to which the government of Iran adheres; and
2. a natural phenomenon called EMP (electromagnetic pulse).
I will deal with them one at a time.
1. The nature of the version of Shiite Islam to which the government of Iran adheres
The mullahs in Iran practice a particularly virulent brand of Shiite Islam. They believe in the return of ‘the 12th Imam,’ known as the Mahdi. The Mahdi can best be understood as the Shiite messiah. They believe that when the Mahdi returns he will usher in a 1000-year age of justice, and that the Mahdi will come in response to a condition of chaos and destruction. The added fillip to this is that they believe that they themselves can cause this to happen by creating the necessary chaos and destruction (remember, I am not arguing that this should make sense to you. The point is that it makes sense to them).
2. EMP (electromagnetic pulse)
EMP is a natural phenomenon created by the fact that electrons can be “shocked” into spinning out of control, interacting with other electrons. (Please continue reading. This is very simply presented and easily followed). Therefore, a single nuclear weapon exploded at high altitude above the United States will interact with the Earth’s atmosphere, ionosphere, and magnetic field to produce an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) radiating down which will “short-circuit” whatever electric grid it encounters. In simple terms, if a single nuclear bomb is detonated at the appropriate altitude above the mid west, it will DESTROY the entire electric grid of the US, thus cutting off the lifeblood of the US economy. Just to be clear, if this happens, the electricity system won’t be capable of being turned back on. It will be finished. Think of it, no lights, no manufacturing, no banking system, no…. nothing – all will be destroyed! There is no way that the United States can survive such an attack as a functioning society.
Now, ask yourselves if you think that those who fall under factor #1 above (Mahdist Shiite Muslims), in order to create the conditions for the return of the Mahdi, would hesitate to resort to factor #2 above (creating an EMP by detonating a nuclear weapon)?
Remember, this is not me saying this. This is General McInerney, General Chrosniak, Reza Khalili, etc. who are saying this.
The US government accepts this as fact, but they don’t make a big deal about it because they don’t want to create a panic. They are also concerned that the Jon Stewarts and Stephen Colberts of the world will satirize it into oblivion (remember “Star Wars”).
The possibility of weaponizing EMP is a problem that will be with us for a very long time, but at a relatively nominal cost we already have the technology to “harden” the electric grid of the United States. This (national security) is a function given by the Constitution to the Federal government, as opposed to (among other things) subsidizing public broadcasting or distributing cheese. We need to act now to put this protection in place.
The immediate, existential situation of Iran can and must be addressed immediately. Fortunately, the mullahs do not have the support of the people of Iran. Furthermore, the vast majority of the Iranian people (this according to the panelists at the symposium) are not Mahdists. If we had supported the revolt in Iran two years ago, we might very well have a friendly Iranian government in power now. It is not too late. There is an incipient revolutionary underway in Iran. We must help that revolution to occur.
As this Reuters piece points out, it depends who you talk to.
There are estimates ranging from two months to two years, depending on what kind of bomb we’re talking about and whether you believe the Iranians are further along in enrichment technology than we think.
There is little doubt that if Iran kicked inspectors out of the country that they could probably enrich their stockpile of LEU – Low Enriched Uranium – to the 85-90% threshold necessary to construct a bomb in a matter of months. The problem is in figuring out how far along they are in building a technologically feasible delivery system like a missile:
A paper published by the U.S. Bipartisan Policy Center think-tank said Iran could make 20 kg of HEU — a quantity it said would be enough for one device — in two months.
It said it remained unclear if Iran had mastered the technology to turn the HEU into a weapon, but that history suggested this could be achieved in less than six months.
But another Washington-based think-tank, the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), said Jones’s calculation method was “unreliable” and a breakout in such a short time at Iran’s Natanz enrichment site was not realistic.
Other experts stressed that Iran would also need to turn any weapons-usable uranium into the core of a nuclear missile if it wanted more than a crude device, adding to the timetable.
Mark Fitzpatrick, of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), said he now believed Iran could make a nuclear weapon in less than two years’ time.
“Suggestions that Iran will be able to produce weapons in a matter of months are irresponsible,” Fitzpatrick, a director of the IISS Non-proliferation and Disarmament Programme, said.
But, “just as exaggeration is irresponsible, so too is complacency,” he added.
Creating enough HEU to build a bomb is only the first step. Do they have a workable bomb design? This missle question is critical because a warhead design is a very tricky proposition – especially for a third world country like Iran with limited technological abilities. Then there’s the question of their progress with enrichment. They are using a centrifuge method to separate the isotopes which demands extremely thin engineering tolerances to make the cascade work. Even without the Stuxnet worm, they were suffering from regular breakdowns and failures. These problems didn’t stop the enrichment – but it would slow down any program where they wished to enrich to weapons grade capacity.
The Israelis think the Iranians are two years away from having a workable weapon. Iran “is moving ahead in all of the ways that you would need to if you wanted a nuclear weapon,” Fitzpatrick said.
Raising the pressure, U.N. nuclear watchdog chief Yukiya Amano this month said he was “increasingly concerned” about possible work in Iran to develop a nuclear missile. He hoped to give more details soon about the basis for those concerns.
Israel and the United States, Tehran’s arch foes, have not ruled out military action if diplomacy fails to resolve the row. Israel bombed an Iraqi reactor in 1981 and launched a similar sortie against Syria in 2007.
“Israel has no doubt that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons,” the head of the Jewish state’s atomic energy commission, Shaul Chorev, told member states of the U.N. nuclear agency last week.
Israel’s chief of military intelligence, Aviv Kochavi, said in January that Iran could produce bombs within two years.
I would add that all this speculating and calculating depends on the notion that we know about all of the nuclear facilities that Iran possesses and that there are no hidden enrichment plants or other projects that would narrow the time frame for Iran’s construction of the bomb.
Iran can’t enrich their stockpile to the 90% bomb grade level unless the IAEA inspectors at Nantanz are kicked out. That’s where the nuclear material is stored and the inspectors can keep a close eye on it as long as they are allowed to do their jobs. (Again, assuming there is no other site where enrichment is done in secret.) Given that, Iran would most likely put itself in a position where all the elements for making a bomb or two would be in place so that if they decided to go ahead and build it, they could bring everything together in a matter of months.
What we can be sure of is that very soon, they will have the capability to build a bomb but probably won’t construct one. The dilemma for Israel and the US is to decide when that point is reached and whether to act or not.
At last, a politician who admits, “I don’t claim to know everything; I don’t pander to groups; I am terrible at political correctness.” Not bad for starters.

GOP Holds Planned Parenthood Accountable For Spending – September 27, 2011
House Republicans have begun an investigation into Planned Parenthood’s use of federal funds, questioning whether the national network of abortion providers has proper checks in place to prevent violations of federal law. Under federal law, clinics that perform abortions can obtain federal money for health and contraceptive services but are not allowed to spend any of that money on abortions except in rare cases. Planned Parenthood reported $1.1 billion in revenue from July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009, of which $363.2 million was from federal, state or local grants and contracts. All of that money went to local affiliates. The Washington Times
US Wants China To Stop Undervaluing Its Currency – September 27, 2011
The Senate will move forward next week on legislation that aims to encourage China to raise the value of its currency as a way to strengthen the U.S. job market. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the Senate will take up the bi-partisan currency legislation next week, and that he feels “very comfortable” it will be passed. The Senate bill would require the U.S. Commerce Department to investigate if a country is undervaluing its currency, which would be regarded as a government subsidy under U.S. law. Affected U.S. companies would then be allowed to seek retaliatory tariffs on goods imported from the country. VOA News
Hunting For Russian Nuke Smuggler – September 27, 2011
Authorities in the ex-Soviet republic of Moldova are hunting the alleged Russian mastermind of a failed plan to sell weapons- grade uranium on the black market, a new US Senate report said Tuesday. AFP reported in June that Moldova police had arrested six suspects and seized a sample of Uranium-235 in a sting that thwarted a potential customer, described by a top official as “a citizen of a Muslim country in Africa.” But the report for the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee includes the alarming charge that the group also claimed to possess plutonium, far less of which is needed to make a bomb. Dead Sea Scroll Now Online – September 26, 2011
Two thousand years after they were written and decades after they were found in desert caves, some of the world-famous Dead Sea Scrolls are available online. Israel’s national museum and the international web giant Google are behind the project, which put five scrolls online Monday. The scrolls include the biblical Book of Isaiah. Google’s technology allows surfers to search the scrolls for specific passages and translate them into English. The scrolls available online were purchased by Israeli researchers between 1947 and 1967. They were originally found by Bedouin shepherds in the Judean Desert. YNet News
America Abundantly Taxes Its Rich – September 21, 2011
In 2010, according to the TPC, Americans in the bottom 20 percent of income earners paid minus (-)3.8 percent of the total federal income tax burden. In other words, they got more back, in income tax credits and the like, than they paid in. Those in the middle quintile (with an average income of $44,000) paid 3.9 percent of the total federal income tax burden. And those in the fourth quintile (whose income ranged from $58,000 to $102,000) paid 15.1 percent of the total federal income tax burden. Meanwhile, Americans in the highest 0.1 percent of all income-earners — these are the very rich, with incomes of at least $1.974 million — paid 16.4 percent of the total federal tax burden. In other words, the top 0.1 percent paid more toward the workings of government than the bottom 80 percent did. That’s despite the fact that the bottom 80 percent collectively made more than six times as much money as the top 0.1 percent did. The Weekly Standard
