When I prayed about the building of temples and expensive projects, I continually felt a certain grief in my heart but couldn’t discover the reason. I know it was the Lord who whispered to my heart, “I can’t afford these building programs anymore:’
It has to do with more than money; it has to do with the high cost upon some of His most favored servants.
Many of those building today are among His strongest warriors-men of tremendous faith and compassion for human need. It has taken too high a toll on their spiritual and physical well-being. In fact, some have gone too far and will never recover the anointing they once had.
These are the men of God so much needed on the front lines, pulling down satanic strongholds, delivering the searing Word of God to a slumbering church. They should be the men shut in with God in the secret closet, hours and days on end, growing deep and strong in the vision of His holiness, and giving themselves wholly to prayer and the study of God’s Word. Had many of these talented men of God done that, rather than get straddled with projects, they would have been spiritual giants by now-shaking multitudes for God.
God can no longer afford to see His mightiest men strapped under such suffocating financial pressure and wasting time on frivolous toy projects. Time that should be spent in worship, in beholding His face, and in being changed from glory to glory is being spent pounding the gates of heaven for money to finish or carryon some great enterprise-much of it nonessential. Time that should have been invested in devouring God’s Word, in hearing from heaven, and in getting the true mind of the Lord is spent in organization and planning. The spiritual, mental drain is a grief to God’s heart.
I look into the drawn faces of many great men of God involved in massive projects, and my heart goes out to them. Many do not sleep well anymore; they are in so deep, and no end seems to be in sight. It has to be very distracting to their quiet time with the Lord. It has to be disheartening, not to be able to give the Lord the time needed to keep a fresh anointing. And if he is truly a man of God, he is never satisfied to give the sheep scraps. It is one of the worst abominations in the eyes of God for one of His pastors or evangelists to rush into the pulpit unprepared, having no ringing word of authority or power.
I believe the Holy Spirit is calling His great warriors back to their knees. The time comes when God will ask-Do you go on with Me, or with continual projects?
I visit beautiful new houses of God, nearly finished.
I breathe a sigh of relief for that dear man of God who undertook it. “Now:’ I say to myself, “he is free to get back to intense prayer and to grow deeper in truth and revelation:’ But that’s often not the case. I am taken into his office and shown plans for his other ambitious projects. Retirement centers, recreation facilities, schools-and I leave with my head spinning. I ask myself, “Is that dear man going to spend the rest of his life building? When will he ever be satisfied to simply preach and minister to the Lord?”
No, God really can’t afford this continual building of temples and institutions. Men of vision are now needed on the spiritual front. There is a desperate need for a ministry that is moving in a new realm of spiritual authority-and that can happen only through a kind of devotion and separation not yet seen among us.
Men of God, finish what you’ve started. Call a halt to all the rest, and tell your people that from now on you will shut yourself in with God so you can stand in the pulpit with a powerful “thus saith the Lord:’ You don’t have time to waste; you are reaching the hour of decision: spiritual growth and depth, or shallowness due to busyness.
I don’t believe God is against the building of churches, Bible schools, hospitals, or what ever may meet human need. He is set against ministers becoming addicted to building, the giving of themselves and all their time to these projects so that God IS robbed of their best time and energy in the spiritual realm.

1 Corinthians 14:32-33
And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Among people who have inspirational experiences of prophecy, tongues, and interpretation of tongues, it is very easy for one to claim that the Holy Spirit is moving upon him and that he should not quench the Spirit [1 Thes. 5:19].
This attitude of being determined to obey the Spirit leads to abuse of such gifts many times, causing much confusion in the church.
Let no man claim to be moved by the Holy Spirit who acts disorderly and causes confusion, for God is not the author of such [v32-33].

Dr. David Reagan and I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Mark Hitchcock on the show Christ in Prophecy. Mark is a leading Bible prophecy expert, prolific author who has penned over 20 books on the end times, senior pastor of Faith Bible Church located in Oklahoma, and adjunct faculty member of the Dallas Theological Seminary. He is also a much in demand speaker at Bible prophecy conferences all over the nation.
Dr. Hitchcock was invited to answer questions based on his book Cashless: Bible Prophecy, Economic Chaos, and the Future Financial Order. It concerns the world presently teetering on financial chaos, global interdependency, and modern technology all converging in such a way that a cashless society and one-world economy are not only possible, but inevitable.
The Threshold of a Cashless Society
Dr. Hitchcock: I would like to say first of all that cashless is not a description of our bank accounts, if you copy. Some people read that and think, “Hey, that describes pretty well where I feel where I am right now!”
The idea for writing my book Cashless came as I was seeing all the things that are happening in our world today. As you know, Bible prophecy teachers have been saying really since the 1970’s that a cashless society is coming. There have been some books written in the past on the topic, but there have been so many things happening in recent times about this, especially with advances in technology. I thought it would be great to kind of give an update on this economic movement.
While I was working on the book the financial tsunami in the last of Fall 2008 hit. That event put a lot of this whole movement towards globalism and economic cooperation between nations on fast forward. I was amazed that while working on the book all of these things happened and that they are really going to speed up the fulfillment of this prophecy concerning a cashless world society. Such a divine timing on my work feels like God’s providence.
Nathan Jones: Where in the Bible does it say that one day the world will have a cashless society?
Dr. Hitchcock: An important point that I like to make is that the Bible never specifically says anywhere there is going to be a cashless society in the future. But, in Revelation 13 the Bible says that this “beast coming out of the sea” whom we call “Antichrist” — this final world ruler — when he comes on the scene is going to have a man who is kind of his second-in-command and propaganda expert. This “beast coming out of the earth,” I call him the “World Economic Czar.” In the Bible he is also called the “False Prophet.” He is going to set up a system where everyone in the world is going to have to worship the Antichrist and take his mark in order to be able to buy and sell.
Now, with cash people would not be able to control the world economy, because as long as there is cash people can operate outside of the system by slipping some money under the table. For there to be an iron-clad system where you cannot buy or sell — that absolute supply and demand are controlled — it is going to have to be a cashless society.
So, Revelation 13 is where I find the cashless society alluded to in the Bible, and many other prophecy teachers have agreed that’s what Revelation 13 means.
Dr. Reagan: As far back as I have intensely studied Bible prophecy, which would go back to the late 19th Century (not that I was alive then, but I read books from back then), I have found people saying there is going to be a cashless society in the future. This is not some new prophecy, nor is it some new interpretation. It’s not something that you are just reading into the news. This is something that people have been saying long before you came on the scene.
Dr. Hitchcock: That’s right. Edward Bellamy wrote his book Looking Backward in the late 1800’s. In 1887, Bellamy was a utopian writer who predicted credit cards as well as a cashless society. This idea, then, has been part of the secular fabric of our society.
Bible prophecy teachers have also seen in the Bible that someone is going to control the world one day. In an economy where one cannot buy or sell, those in power would then have absolute control of world finances, and thereby every single person. This cannot occur without the society being totally cashless.
Dr. Reagan: Revelation 13:16-17 goes, “He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.” And so, if one can’t buy and sell unless they have this mark, then every transaction in the world has to be monitored, right?
Dr. Hitchcock: That’s right. Society will have to be cashless using some type of electronic system for that to be true.
It is amazing that the Bible predicted a cashless society back in the times of wood, stone and togas! This to me is another verifiable point and confirmation that the Bible is the Word of God and that it is true.
Prophetical Sensationalism Daniel 11:43
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
When Mussolini took Libya and Ethiopia in 1935 thousands of Bible students hailed him as the Antichrist, claiming Daniel 11:43 was being fulfilled.
This plus the fact of his dream of the revival of the Roman Empire, caused many to teach that he was truly the Antichrist, but how far wrong they have been.
This and all other foolish speculations of the past about Hitler, Stalin, the pope of Rome, and others should cure students of further guessing concerning the fulfillment of prophecy but this seems impossible.
Speculation still goes rampant through the land without check. Some have gone so far as to find the U.S.A. in the name of Jer-USA-lem.
Others see the U.S.A. in Isaiah 18, in the white horse rider of Revelation 6, and the two-horned lamb of Rev. 13.
Innumerable speculations have been advanced concerning the name of the Antichrist, the mark of the beast, and a host of other things of Scripture.
Some even find flying saucers, atom bombs, H-bombs, the airplane, automobile, radio, television, and other modern inventions in Scripture, while the truth is that no one of these is mentioned apart from the general statements that “knowledge shall be increased” [Daniel 12:4]. See the notes given with the various passages used to prove modern intentions, for the true meaning of such passages [22 modern inventions, p.882 – Dake’s A.R.B.].
Libya and Ethiopia could be conquered by any number of men, if the Lord tarries, without fulfilling Dan. 11:43. Unless one conquers AFTER the 10 kingdoms are formed [7:24], AFTER the rapture of the Church [2 Thes. 2:7 notes], comes from Syria and makes a 7-year covenant with Israel [8:9-14; 9:27] He cannot fulfill this prophecy.
There would be no sensational speculation about prophecy if men would watch the time element and other facts that identify a true fulfillment.

Schools of the Prophets 1 Samuel 19:20
And Saul sent messengers to take David : and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.
Hebrew: Iahaqah, to gather, as assembly; a company. From this assembly of the prophets we get the idea of the school of the prophets.
It seemed that men who desired to be prophets gathered together to learn the ways of God and to be trained in divine matters.
No doubt they sought God and were anointed with the Holy Spirit as in other periods.
Certain men in every age have been spiritually minded and hungry for the Lord. There were such gatherings from Samuel’s day on [v20:24; 10:5-12; 1 Ki. 18:4,13; 19:1,10,14].
Those who gathered in Elijah and Elisha’s day were called the sons of the prophets [1 Ki. 20:35, 41; 2 Ki. 2:2-7,15; 4:1, 38; 5:22; 6:1; 9:1].
Here it speaks of Samuel standing among them as their appointed leader or president of the school [v20]. Elijah and Elisha were heads of the prophets in their time [2 Ki. 2:2-7,15; 2 Ki. 6:1].
In such gatherings there seemed to be a general spirit of prophecy that would come upon all present. At least, this is what happened here.
Three companies of Saul’s soldiers had the Spirit come upon them when they came among the prophets [v20-21].
Then when Saul, the backslider from whom the Spirit had been taken away, came among them, the Spirit was upon him again for the time being [v22-24].
Micah 2:11
If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.
A lying spirit of falsehood and deceit, not the Holy Spirit [v11] .
Other prophets have spoken of this kind - false prophets.
In Ezekiel: Woe unto the foolish prophets that walk after their own spirit and have seen nothing [Ezek. 13:3].
In Jeremiah: The prophets prophesy lies…. I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart [Jer. 14:14-15].
These walked in the spirit, but not the Holy Spirit as the true prophets did. They constantly conversed with their own spirit and that of demons, predicting lies and falsehoods.
Here they prophesied of wine and strong drink, because that was the chief thing on their minds and what they continually gave themselves to.
They desired to please the rich men, to embolden them in their lives of self-indulgence, and to tell them that they would not be punished.
They doubtless did say some good things, when quoting God’s promises to His people, but would not speak of the curses of God upon sin.
This is the secret of success for false prophets even today.
The natural man wants a god, and anything which has a mere resemblance of the spiritual will satisfy, for a time at least, even though it is deception.
Prediction without Conditions 2 Kings 1:15-16
And the angel of the Lord said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.
And he said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to enquire of His word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
As punishment for such an insult to Jehovah, from a king over His people, the Lord sent His prophet, Elijah the Tishbite, to the messengers of the king who were to tell him that because of this he would surely die.
Whether this was an ordinary angel or one of the members of the Divine Trinity is not clear, but whoever it was this was a ministering spirit [Heb. 1:14]. It was a Divine Person who appeared to Abraham, Moses, and others, and it could have been one here. [v3, 15].
The one prediction was that Ahaziah would not get well; he would die of the sickness he now had because he sought not to the Lord but to an idol god.
This was the message Elijah was commanded to give the messengers of Ahaziah. He forbad them to go down to Ekron, saying they should turn back to their king and gave him a message from God.
One can see from the content of the message why God was intervening. Ahaziah had lost all faith in Jehovah due to the fact that he had been brought up in Israel to worship Baal. His mother, Jezebel had been the chief defender of Baal. Over 850 prophets of Baal and the groves [Asherahs, p.106] had eaten at her table. [1Ki. 18:19]. He himself had been a personal disciple of Baal [1 Ki. 22:51-53]. Though he might have heard of the miracles of Jehovah through Elijah, Ahaziah was not a convert to Him, so he naturally would send to the gods he had faith in. This is what God hated and judged.
This was a repetition of the message, and the king asked “What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words? And they answered him, He was a hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And the king said, It is Elijah he Tishbite” [v7-8]. This could refer to his garment of shaggy untanned skin, as well as to his uncut long hair and long beard. Prophets wore course clothing [v8; Zech.13:4; Mt.3:4]. By the description of his person and clothing the king recognized him as the prophet Elijah. This was enough proof that he knew of him and his God, so there was no excuse for sending to an idol god in Ekron.
Then – when Ahaziah recognized that it was Elijah who had stopped his messengers and made a prediction of his death, he sent 51 men to get him [v9]. He [Elijah] did not run this time, but sat calmly on a hill perhaps waiting for some word from the king. The captain of the 50 men called to Elijah to come down to be taken to the king [v9]. Elijah answered “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your 50 men” - Fire came down and consumed them [v10].
It could be that the man was haughty and insulting to Elijah, and this needed the judgment of this miracle. It must be remembered that the whole story is not told here.
Again – a second time the king sent 51 men to arrest Elijah, knowing no doubt by now the fate of the first 51 he had sent. There could have been eye-witnesses to the miracle. The second captain demanded that Elijah come down quickly at the king’s command, not humbling himself any more than the first one, Elijah answered as before, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your 50 men.” And again, fire fell and consumed the second 51 men [v11-12].
Again – a third time Ahaziah sent a captain and his 50 men to arrest Elijah. The third captain took a different attitude toward Elijah. He went up the hill instead of demanding that Elijah come down to him and his men. Falling on his knees before the prophet he begged that their lives would be spared and counted as precious in his sight [v13, 14]. Before Elijah had time to act or reply, he received a message from the angel of the Lord who told him that he should not be afraid and that it was all right to go down [v15].
This kind of message indicates that the king had some definite plan to do away with him and that Elijah was somewhat fearful of the outcome of meeting with this new king of Samaria; but now that he had word from the angel he knew all would be well, so he went down with the third captain of 50 men to see the king. [v16 Cp. v6].
Elijah’s message was the same to the king in person as it was when he delivered it to the king’s messengers. This shows the boldness of Elijah. He did not soften the message in the least before the king [v16 Cp. v6].
The one prediction was that the king would not live but die on his bed of sickness because of insulting Jehovah and not trusting in Him in preference to a lifeless idol. It was the third time this prediction was made.
It does not say how long it was after Elijah gave the prophecy before he died; and THERE WAS NO TIME ELEMENT in the prophecy. Neither does it mention the conversation between them, or state whether Elijah offered any advice.
THIS WAS PURELY A PREDICTION WITHOUT CONDITIONS and something that would happen REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE KING WOULD DO. - Dake A.R. Bible
Reader, how many opportunities have passed us by? The important question is how many chances are left for us to make a commitment to God? Prophets: 2 Kings 2:3
And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from they head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
The prophets were the divine philosophers, the instructors, and the guides of the Hebrews in piety and virtue.
They generally lived retired being seen in public mainly when they had some message of God to deliver.
Their habitations and mode of life were plain, simple, and consistent.
‘Sons of the prophets’ were pupils of the prophets being trained in religion and habits of devotion and piety.
They were not a monastic order but a group of theological students studying the law and history of God’s people, together with sacred poetry and music.
There were several ‘schools of the prophets’ from the days of Samuel to the N.T. times when Israel was a nation [1 Sam. 10:5, 10-12; 19:20-24].
In the days of Elijah he was head-master of several schools – at Gilgal [4;28], at Bethel where Jeroboam had his altar and one of his golden calves [1 Ki. 12:29; 13:1-32], at Jericho, and other places [v3-7, 15; 1 Ki. 20:35, 21].
Elisha succeeded Elijah over these schools and even enlarged them [4:1, 38; 5:22; 6:1-7; 9:1]. Dake Pg 392
MAN OF GOD: 1 Samuel 2:27
And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh’s house? [Dake]
God always has His man when one is needed to go on some special mission for Him.
He can and does move in every crisis of human history to warn, rebuke, judge, and otherwise intervene in the affairs of men.
Moses was the first to be called ‘man of God’ [Dt. 33:1; Ps. 90, title].
It was a term among the common people for a prophet who was a spokesman for God [Ex. 4;16; 17:1]. The term is found 75 times in Scripture.
6 Qualifications of a ‘man of God’:
Know Scriptures [2 Tim. 3:15-17].
Be perfect [2 Tim. 3:17].
Be thoroughly furnished unto all good works [2 Tim. 3:17].
Inspired by the Holy Spirit [2 Tim. 3:16-17; Neh. 9:30; Num. 11:16-29].
Jehovah making Himself known to him [Num. 12:6; Eze. 3:17; Jer. 15:19].
Qualified to act in God’s stead as if God, Himself were acting. In fact, in certain appearances of God to men HE is called ‘man of God’ [Judg.13:6, 8, 22].
12 Persons called ‘man of God’:
Moses [Dt. 33:1; Josh. 14:6; 1 Chr. 23:14; 2 Chr. 30:16; Ezra 3:2; Ps. 90, title]
God [Judg. 13:6, 8-22].
An unknown prophet [2:27].
Samuel [9:6-10].
Shemaiah [1 Ki. 12:22; 2 Chr. 11:2]
An unknown prophet [1 Ki. 13:1-31; 2 Ki. 23:16-17].
Elijah [1 Ki. 17:18, 24; 2 Ki. 1:9-13]
An unknown prophet [1 Ki. 20:28]
Elisha [2 Ki. 4:7-9, 16, 21-27, 40-42; 2 Ki. 5:8, 14-20; 2 Ki. 6:6-15; 2 Ki. 7:2, 17-19; 2 Ki. 8:2-11; 2 Ki. 13:19]
David [2 Chr. 8:14; Neh. 12:24, 36].
An unknown prophet [2Chr. 25:7-9].
Igdaliah [Jer.35:4].
1 - Understand prophecy as history written beforehand.
2 - Give the same meaning to words of prophecy as you do the words of history.
3 - Do not seek for hidden meanings.
4 - Do not think prophecy must be fulfilled before it can be understood.
5 - Do not interpret God’s own interpretation of anything in prophecy.
6 - Take all prophecy literally unless it is clear that it cannot have a literal meaning. Then get the literal truth conveyed by the figurative language.
7 - Let the Bible be its own interpreter.
I Kings 22:19-23
And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right hand and on His left.
And the Lord said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.
And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will persuade him.
And the Lord said unto him, Wherewith? And he said I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And He said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth and do so.
Now therefore, behold the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.
Micaiah continued his message to Ahab by repeating what he had seen – the Lord sitting upon a throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on both sides. The Lord inquired as to whom He would sent to persuade Ahab to go to Ramoth-gilead to battle. Various spirits gave their suggestions, and finally there cam a demon who volunteered to be a lying spirit in the mouths of Ahab’s prophets to urge him to go to battle. The Lord gave him permission to carry out his plan [v 19-22].
This is just one of the many times when men have seen God. Here again He is pictured as an ordinary sized being in the midst of all His subjects on the right hand and on the left.
This reveals that God and His heavenly hosts, including demons on certain occasions, have conferences concerning the affairs of men on earth. This one had to do with only one part of the earth, one people on the earth, and one king in particular.
He was in rebellion against God, in league with idol gods, and listening to their prophets instead of the true prophets of Jehovah, so God permitted him to be deceived instead of saving him from such deception.
There was very little that could be done with such a stubborn man – one consecrated to demon worship and demon prophets. Micaiah had been sent to Ahab but he would not receive Jehovah’s instructions, in this case 2Th.2:8-12 is clearly illustrated. Because he and his associates had no love for the truth that they might be saved, God sent them a strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
The idea is that God permitted such deception to take the place of the truth rejected. If men will not have the truth they will automatically have a substitute that will be more in harmony with their wicked ways for the time being. Ahab would not have truth and would not listen to Jehovah, but he would have lies and listen to the prophets of Baal.
This passage simply gives an insight into the spirit realm showing that behind all human acts there are good and bad spirits seeking to carry out the respective wills of their masters. The Lord protects as long as He can, and when there is nothing else He can do to turn men from their wicked ways, error, and harm, He then permits demon spirits to deceive and cause them to go further astray.
This indicates that many spirits in heaven have the right of hearing on matters important enough to be discussed. Even demon spirits have access to some conferences [v21-23; Job 1:6; 2:1; Rev.12:9-12].
This was a demon spirit, for no good one could be a lying spirit in the mouth of anyone [v21-23]. It is clear that this demon spirit volunteered to do this work – he was not forced in any way [v21].
All things here were on a volunteer basis. The Lord first inquired for someone willing to persuade Ahab. The talks were on a voluntary basis also [v20]. When a spirit volunteered [v21], the Lord inquired as to how he would persuade Ahab, and was told that he would be a lying spirit in the mouths of Ahab’s prophets. The Lord gave permission [v22].
[hath put], that is, has permitted a demon spirit to be a lying spirit to deceive men who would not accept the Holy Spirit message through Micaiah [v23].
It seems that Zedekiah was the chief prophet of these 400 false ones of Baal, for this is the second time he took the lead [v11, 24]. He smote Micaiah on the cheek and tauntingly asked where the Holy Spirit went “from me to speak unto you?” [v24]. Micaiah answered that he would know when he went into the chamber to hide himself [v25].
[v28] This one prediction was that Zedekiah would hide himself for shame because of his false prophecies of Ahab’s victory [v 25 Cp. v11]. Ahab put Micaiah in prison until he should return in peace. This act was answered with another prophecy [v26-28]. It predicted one thing – that Ahab would lose the war and not return in peace: If he did then it would be proof that Jehovah had not spoken to Micaiah.
Hearken – I want all of you to witness what I have predicted and know that the Lord has spoken by me [v38].
[The king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself and enter into the battle, but put thou on thy robes. v30]. This in itself was treachery and deception – feigning which almost cost Jehoshaphat his life. The captains of Syria had been instructed to fight with the king of Israel only, to destroy him; so when they saw Jehoshaphat in royal robes they thought he was Ahab and pursued him until it was discovered he was not the man they sought [v29-33]. – Dake A.R.
